Your Place or Mine is a 2023 American romantic comedy film written and directed by Aline Brosh McKenna in her directorial debut.
Ashton Kutcher and Reese Witherspoon play best friends who decide to switch houses for a week in the movie, which they also produced. Additionally included are Jesse Williams, Zoe Chao, Wesley Kimmel, Tig Notaro, and Steve Zahn. On February 10, 2023, Netflix released the movie. Critics gave it mixed to unfavorable reviews and criticized Witherspoon and Kutcher’s lack of chemistry.
Plot
After spending the evening playing poker with a different couple in Los Angeles in 2003, Debbie Dunn and Peter Coleman have sex and spend the night together in her house.
Debbie and Peter remain close friends after twenty years. She still resides in Los Angeles and works as an accountant at her son Jack’s middle school, while he moved to New York City and established himself as a prosperous businessman. As Debbie phones Peter on his birthday, they talk about her upcoming trip to New York to finish an accounting course that will help her land a better-paying job. Scarlet, the actress who is the girlfriend of Debbie’s ex-husband, is supposed to care Jack for a week but refuses when she is offered a two-week assignment in Vancouver.
In order to take care of Jack, Peter, who recently split up with his fiancée and is unemployed, offers to travel to Los Angeles.
In California, Peter discovers the full depth of Debbie’s overbearing parenting and makes the decision to encourage Jack to let go a little. Peter buys Jack two skybox seats to see the Los Angeles Kings, but when Jack tries to invite two classmates, they turn him down.
