Mr Macaroni pleads for the release of protesters who are still in police custody
Adebowale Debo Adedayo, widely known as ‘Mr Macaroni,’ a Nigerian actor and content producer, has called for the release of demonstrators who are currently in police prison.
He revealed this to the press during the peaceful walk commemorating the Endsars movement’s third anniversary, which took place on Friday, October 20, 2023.
Recall that on October 11, 2020, several Nigerian people flocked to the streets of Lagos’ ‘Lekki tollgate’ to protest police brutality and the disbandment of SARS (Special Anti-Robbery Squad).
They were unable to continue the protest when the Nigerian Army arrived on the location on the 20th of October 2023 and opened fire on peaceful and unarmed protestors.
Every 20th of October since then, Nigerians have congregated at the site of the incident for a peaceful stroll and to pray for the souls who were lost.
Mr Macaroni has now revealed that some demonstrators have been detained by police since the protest in 2020, and that attorneys have been assigned to the issue, but no action has been taken.
He said that “In as much as we have said that this is a very peaceful walk we want it to remain so, and what I want to do now is to use this opportunity to call for the unconditional release of all those that are still unjustly in prison. There are still some protesters that have been imprisoned since 2020 Lawyers have been on the case different shout everyday but till now they are still there we are using this walk once again to call on all those concerned for the unconditional release of all protesters that are still in prison till now.”
