Dortmund secures an additional Champions League qualifying spot for the Bundesliga by defeating Paris St-Germain. Italy also clinches a bonus spot in the next season’s expanded competition. In the Premier League, only the top four teams of this season will qualify for the following edition of the tournament.

England’s underwhelming performance this season in European competitions has resulted in them slipping to third place in the coefficient table. This means that only the top four finishers in the Premier League will secure qualification for the Champions League.

Even if Aston Villa were to triumph over Olympiakos in both legs of their Europa Conference League semi-finals and subsequently conquer Fiorentina or Club Brugge in the final, England would still need the remaining German teams – Bayern Munich, Dortmund, and Bayer Leverkusen – to lose all their matches to surpass Germany in the rankings.

England has consistently placed in the top two of the coefficient table in six of the last seven seasons. However, the Premier League is currently experiencing its lowest coefficient total since 2016/17. The introduction of the Europa Conference League in 2021/22 has somewhat mitigated this decline, as it prevented the coefficient total from dropping even further.

France, positioned in fourth place, has also had their slim hopes of overtaking Germany dashed.
