After receiving harsh criticism on social media for reportedly disparaging Ayra Starr for her omission from the 2025 Grammy nominations, Nigerian artist Jaywon has issued an apology to her.

Jaywon apologized on X and said he was impressed by Ayra Starr’s vocals and music. She is among the most talented female vocalists in Africa, he said.

“If you see Ayra Starr, tell her I’m sorry she wasn’t nominated for this year’s Grammys,” Jaywon stated in his tweet. I think she is one of Africa’s best female vocalists, and I adore her music.”

“We don’t pull people down on this side,” he continued. We improve for the future as much as for the present.

Jaywon’s apology, meantime, follows backlash on the internet for his first remarks, which many saw as disparaging Ayra Starr’s achievements.

Jaywon wants to help Ayra Starr and foster harmony in the music industry by expressing regret and complimenting the singer’s skills.
