AFCON UPDATE: Eagles v Falcons
The Super Eagles of Nigeria will today face the Falcon of Sudan on match day two of the Africa Cup of Nations 2021 at 15:00 GMT.
Nigeria currently tops the Group D after their 1-0 victory over Egypt on Tuesday.
The Sudanese fights to draw 0-0 with Guinea-Bissau on their first leg and they got one point.
A win for the Falcons will put them in a better position to qualify for the next round in the AFCON for the first time since they last played in 2012.
Meanwhile a victory for the Eagles will guarantee them a spot in the round of 16.
Nigeria and Sudan have met only twice in the African Cup of Nations. Their first meeting was Nigeria’s first appearance in the tournament was in 1963 where Sudan beat Nigeria 4-0.
Their next meeting was in 1976 where Nigeria won 1-0. Aside that, both teams have met 16 times. Nigeria won eight times, four games ended in draw while Sudan won four times during their last meeting.
Players to watch
Kelechi Iheanacho and Moses Simon – Nigeria
While Iheanacho scored the only goal and subsequently wins the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the game against Egypt, Moses Simon was very impressive through the left flank and causing constant threat to the Egyptians.
Ali Aboeshren and Yasin Hamed – Sudan
Aboeshren save a penalty and later received the award of the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of their draw against Guinea-Bissau. The shot-stopper could also take the center-stage again as he is expected to face higher opposition – Nigeria.
Yasin Hamed is one of the very few Europe based professionals for the Sudan team. He is their number one man for attacks.
