Davido calls Burnaboy and others ‘new cats’
He claimed that before other musicians whom he referred to as “new cats” joined the bandwagon, he and Wizkid were the ones who prepared the path.
Afrobeats music has been increasingly popular around the world, and well-known Nigerian musician Davido attributes this ascent to him and his collaborator Wizkid.
This statement was stated by the singer of “Timeless” in a recent interview with Brut, which greatly enraged music fans both in Nigeria and beyond.
He claimed that before other musicians whom he referred to as “new cats” joined the bandwagon, he and Wizkid were the pioneer artists who opened the path for the global recognition and success of Afrobeat music.
“Wizkid and I were the first young artistes to blow up and it feels good seeing new cats like Burna Boy, Rema, Fireboy, Mayorkun and Asake kllling it now”

According to Davido, the foundation he and Wizkid previously established has benefited Grammy-winning musician Burna Boy as well as other new-school artists like Rema, Fireboy, Asake, and Mayorkun.
But he said that he was glad that the ‘young cats’ were producing such high-caliber music since it meant that the future of Afrobeat music was in good hands.
“Everybody knows that I was one of the first, me and Wizkid to blow up. It feels good also seeing that the news cats coming up; like Burna Boy, Rema, Fireboy, Rema, Asake, and Mayorkun,” he said.
