Desire Oparanozie apologised to Nigerians after defeat to England
Desire Oparanozie, a Super Falcons striker, has gone to social media to express her genuine apologies to Nigerians after failing to score her penalty kick in the tense RO16 match against England.
Sad day! Very disappointing to have lost through penalties, and even more disappointing not to have converted mine. And for this I deeply apologise. pic.twitter.com/Pf98NZwyhQ

Oparanozie missed her kick, which could be interpreted as a loss of confidence because the spot-kick taker following her, Michelle Alozie, also missed hers.
Nigeria failed to proceed to the quarter-finals of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 after losing 4-2 on penalties to England.
The Super-Falcons put up a fantastic display over the course of 120 minutes, nearly taking the lead more than twice, with their shots striking the woodwork several times.
Oparanozie, who failed to convert her penalty kick, posted a picture of herself in tears on Instagram and apologized for the team’s Round of 16 loss via penalty shootout.
