The 2023 American romantic comedy Love at First Sight, based on Jennifer E. Smith’s 2011 book The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight, was directed by Vanessa Caswill and written by Katie Lovejoy. Ben Hardy, Dexter Fletcher, Rob Delaney, Sally Phillips, Jameela Jamil, Haley Lu Richardson, and others appear in it. On September 15, 2023, Netflix released the movie.
Plot
Hadley Sullivan, 20, is rebooked on the following flight after missing her ticket to London for her father’s wedding. Oliver Jones, a 22-year-old British student studying statistics at Yale, approaches her as she waits at the gate and offers to lend her his charger after observing that hers is dead.
Oliver carries a garment bag, so she assumes he is also going to a wedding and he does not argue with her assumption. They get along well and share meals together. The flight attendant places Oliver next to Hadley when Oliver’s seat belt malfunctions. They speak and get closer throughout the flight.
Before he moved to London to teach poetry and finally divorced her mother, Hadley says she and her father were quite close. As a result, she was reluctant to attend his wedding and forgive him. Hadley is urged to do so by Oliver. While waiting for the bathroom, they have a brief moment and almost kiss before dozing off for the remainder of the flight.
