With his most recent EP, Soundgod Fest IV, Nigerian Afrobeats artist Runtown has triumphantly returned. Delivered with a sophisticated and reflective edge, the six-track project, the fourth installment of his popular Soundgod Fest series, features his unique blend of Afrofusion, R&B, and dancehall.
After a short break following the release of his 2022 album Signs, Runtown has returned with a small but powerful album that strikes a balance between innovation and nostalgia, establishing his reputation as the Soundgod.
The EP begins with Mood Swings, a beautiful, emotionally charged piece that embraces the unpredictable nature of love with smooth vocals and a rhythmic groove, establishing a soulful tone. Mon Bébé is a sweet love letter that combines literary French language with Afro-R&B sounds, emphasizing Runtown’s lyrical delicacy.
The previously released Do Me returns as a passionate anthem, gaining fresh context within the EP’s journey, while End A Man offers a thoughtful take on betrayal and resilience, sampling Bow Wow’s Thank You for a nostalgic R&B touch.
The highlight tune, Dangerous Hearts, starring UK singer-producer Mr. Hudson, resurrects a Signs track with a clean sample of Sade’s Sweetest Taboo, creating a dramatic and achingly beautiful mood.
Originally intended for June 13 but deferred to assure perfection, Soundgod Fest IV builds on the success of lead songs Flow (December 2024) and Do Me (April 2025). The EP’s strict framework, created with top-tier contributors, stresses quality, with each track polished to reflect Runtown’s artistic maturity.
