Takehiro Tomiyasu agrees to a new extended contract.

After joining us in August 2021 from Serie A team Bologna, our Japanese international has played in every position across the defense and made 73 appearances for Arsenal across all competitions.

Our 25-year-old defender, known to many at the club as Tomi, began his career in his hometown with Avispa Fukuoka, where he advanced through the youth ranks before making 45 appearances for the first squad.

Tomi relocated to Europe in the winter transfer window of 2018, joining Belgian team Sint-Truiden. Because of his outstanding efforts, he was chosen as the club’s player of the season for the 2018–19 season. Tomi joined Bologna in July 2019 and quickly established himself as a mainstay in their defense, playing in 63 games over his two seasons in the Serie A league.

“We are very excited to have Tomi with us for more years to come,” stated Edu, the Sporting Director. He gives our team so much strength and versatility, and he possesses incredible attributes both on and off the field. Tomi is an excellent professional, and it’s wonderful that he will still be crucial to our success in the years to come.

“We are so pleased to have Tomi commit his future with us,” manager Mikel Arteta continued. Tomi has an exceptional attitude, mentality, and values in addition to his inherent skill and strength. Since joining our team, Tomi has grown to be a valued member of the team and is well-liked by all.

“It’s amazing how he trains and how driven he is to always be the best version of himself. We’re excited to collaborate with Tomi in the upcoming years.
