The Hunt is an American Thriller/Horror movie directed by Craig Zobel.
“Twelve strangers wake up in a clearing. They don’t know where they are — or how they got there. In the shadow of a dark internet conspiracy theory, ruthless elitists gather at a remote location to hunt humans for sport. But their master plan is about to be derailed when one of the hunted, Crystal, turns the tables on her pursuers.

Universal Pictures was producing the film with a slated release in 2019. But the production company delayed the release and debated premiering it in the theaters in the wake of mass shootings in Ohio, El Paso, Dayton, and Texas. Ultimately they reached the decision to launch it on Netflix.
“While Universal Pictures had already paused the marketing campaign for The Hunt, after thoughtful consideration, the studio has decided to cancel our plans to release the film.
“We stand by our filmmakers and will continue to distribute films in partnership with bold and visionary creators, like those associated with this satirical social thriller, but we understand that now is not the right time to release this film,” stated Universal.
Zobel was also worried that the content would lead to widespread controversy. The term used in the film, “deplorables” is directly linked to Hillary Clinton’s speech during the 2016 Donald Trump election.
