Nathaniel Martello-White makes his directorial debut with the British horror thriller The Strays in 2023. Ashley Madekwe plays biracial upper-class woman Neve, who lives an idyllic life with her family in the movie. Neve’s privileged life as a socialite in her community and deputy headmistress of a private school is put in jeopardy when her troubled past comes back to destroy everything she has built.
Plot
Cheryl, a Person of color, is living in an undisclosed area in Britain. She communicates worries about segregation and monetary hardships to her sister on the telephone. She leaves a message on the fridge about going to the hair salon and rejects phone calls from her spouse in the subsequent scenes.
Neve, a fair-skinned Black woman who is married to white man Ian and has two biracial children named Sebastian and Mary, is introduced to us several years later. She despises anything that has to do with “blackness.” Neve plans to host a fundraising gala at her home. She is the deputy headmistress at the school where her children attend. She experiences disturbed visions of black people frequently. Neve confronts two black individuals she believes to be strangers at the fundraising gala; She is referred to as their mother.
“Carl and Dione,” the two black people Neve has been seeing, are the focus of the story’s flashbacks to five days earlier. The two are on an obscure mission that includes remaining at an inn, with Carl taking on the name “Marvin” and finding a new line of work as a school janitor and Dione taking the name “Abigail” and filling in as a colleague in Ian’s office. Dione invited Mary to the hotel room for drinking and partying, and Carl invited Sebastian to smoke after his basketball game. They become friends with the children of Neve. After that, Sebastian is coerced into brutally attacking his school bully by Carl.
It is revealed in the present day that Neve is Cheryl and that Carl and Dione are her children. She meets them at a cafe and gives them 10,000 pounds each to assist them in a good place again as they with getting back to London. Nonetheless, Carl and Dione break into Neve’s home. Carl dumps everyone’s phones in the sink before turning on the water and flooding the living room. Carl and Dione assert that it is Dione’s birthday and that they ought to celebrate as a family by ordering Uber Eats.
