Tottenham Sign Joao Palhinha on Loan from Bayern Munich with £27m option to buy as the midfielder returns to the Premier League after a year.

Tottenham Hotspur have finalized a loan agreement for Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha, including a £27 million option to make the move permanent next summer. The 30-year-old, who joined Bayern from Fulham last year in a deal worth up to £47.4 million, still has three years left on his contract with the German club.

Palhinha’s return to the Premier League provides Spurs with midfield reinforcement while allowing them to allocate transfer funds to other key areas this summer. Strengthening their attack is a priority, especially following James Maddison’s injury, and the club is also targeting a full-back and a creative No. 10.

Reflecting on his return to London, Palhinha said, “This is now my home, and I’m determined to prove my ability while enjoying time with my family.”

The Portuguese international expressed his eagerness to join Tottenham, stating, “Once I learned of Spurs’ interest, the decision was straightforward—I wanted to come here.” He also emphasized the influence of manager Thomas Frank in his choice, adding, “When a coach truly wants you, it makes the decision much easier.”

Tottenham and Bayern Munich have developed a positive rapport in recent years, completing transfers for players such as Harry Kane, Eric Dier, and Mathys Tel. This strong relationship has now facilitated another deal—João Palhinha’s loan move to Spurs.

Last season, Palhinha featured in 25 matches across all competitions for Bayern, including 17 Bundesliga appearances, helping Vincent Kompany’s squad secure the league title. Despite his contributions, the midfielder has returned to the Premier League, joining Tottenham on loan with an option to make the move permanent.
