The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, CFR, has congratulated Nigerian woman police fighter, Juliet Ukah, for becoming the latest African EFC Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) champion.
On April 14, Ukah won the Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC) 102 by thrashing South African Crystal Van Wyk at strawweight to extend her winning streak in the UFC.
After leaving scars on Van Wyk’s face, the Nigerian police officer prevailed via unanimous judgment. Ukah now has Alice Ardelean’s strawweight championship in mind as her target.
On Friday, Police IG Baba expressed his happiness at Ukah’s championship victory.
“The Nigeria Police Force’s multi-disciplined Combat Athlete PC Juliet Ukah fought and won against South Africa’s Crystal Van Wyk, who was unbeaten prior to the fight, in Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC) 102,” according to a statement from police spokesman Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
“The fight was a three-round contest that took place on Thursday, April 13, 2023 in Johannesburg, South Africa, where Juliet Ukah demonstrated overall superiority to win by unanimous decision (30-26, 30-26, 30-27).
“On Saturday, April 22, 2023, Juliet Ukah went on to overcome Clodia Vochung Shivabo (IMBGIM FC) of Cameroon.
“The Inspector-General of Police congratulates the officer on his achievement and recognizes the Nigeria Police Force’s contributions to the growth of sports in the nation.
He praised the officer for upholding the honor of the Nigeria Police Force and, by extension, the whole country. In addition, the IGP pledged to consistently identify and promote fresh talents within the Police.
Ukah was one of two Police Female fighters recently released by the IGP for a training in Thailand, according to the police spokeswoman.
PC Juliet is one of two police officers who recently received permission from IGP Usman Alkali Baba, CFR, to travel to Thailand for a six-week professional training tour.
